The First Shift: Breakthrough
"I made a new discovery! Come over & see! I'll be up in the lab so let yourself in."
Alyana read over the text message again as she parked in front of her friend's house. Brielle had been working for years to make her childhood dream of becoming an elastic superhero come true. Of course it would never happen but it had led Brielle to make some amazing discoveries in Materials Engineering, including a few new polymers that pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible.
She rang the doorbell to the modest two-story home. Even though she had a key she at least wanted to give Brielle warning she was coming
BEGINNING
Doctor Jennifer Wade looked through the microscope. She could see tiny little circles, surrounded by a pinkish substance, which was being absorb into the little dots. The dots shook and expanded, to the delight of the scientist.
“Wow, the cells are responding very well to the new formula!” she thought to herself, before picking up a voice recorder from the table. She pressed the “Rec” button, and began to speak.
“The sample, marked 1110, shows a positive response to the serum. The cells do not seem to put up any resistance to the susbstance and absorb it easily, and the changes seem to be occurring

The sky cried powerful tears over Abraham's head. He pulled his coat over his head and continued to run down the dirt road, which was quickly turning to mud beneath this torn and blood covered sneakers. He had been running for what felt like weeks, but for what only could have been a few days. Nothing looked familiar to him…which is what he wanted. The trees toward over him like great leafy giants, glaring at him…challenging him. Lightning stuck over head, lighting the sky with its deadly and brilliant lights. The thunder clap was like a loud roar, daring him to continue his made race. Nature itself conspired against him...it fought him.

Chapter 1
"Chase, it's time to get up!" I rolled over, not wanting to get out of bed. I was so comfortable…in fact, I had slept better tonight than I had slept in a long time. For so many nights now I had slept so uncomfortably…and I would only sleep for maybe 3 or 4 hours at a time. Part of the reason was because my bed was a bit too small for me. The twin size bed was fine when I was still 6 feet tall…but now I'm 6 feet and 5 inches and athletically built! My feet dangle off of the sides and I can never get comfortable.
